Potential customers often enquire about price, size of painting, which medium, subject, timescale, framing , method of payment, post and packaging and many other issues.
Commissions are started only after discussions with the client to suggest and agree the subject, reference material and price guide and establish the clients requirements. Sketches are then prepared to demonstrate style, colour and medium and to finalise framing and delivery.
Price:
Original signed paintings vary in price from £ 40 to £1200 with most in the lower half including commissioned paintings. Price is dependent on medium and any preliminary studies required - an oil painting is more expensive because of materials and time but has the greatest visual impact, however it often does not need to be framed as canvasses are tidily finished on the edges. This is often dictated by the subject and medium but can be anything from a small watercolour 150 mm x 150 mm ( 6" x 6" ) up to a large oil painting at 1000 mm x 1500 mm ( 40" x 60" ) The most popular sizes tend to be nearer 400 mm x 500 mm. The size shown for each painting is the actual painted dimensions and therefore once framed will be larger. Return to Top
Medium:
Different subjects and paintings just ask to be painted in a specific medium. The brilliance of pastels can be breathtaking but the images are physically delicate and must be treated with care. Watercolour has an immediacy and freshness and are less expensive because they are quicker to create. Oil has everything, brilliance, depth, subtlety and resilience but usually takes much longer to create - an oil can take several months to dry! I am happy to suggest a suitable medium for any subject.

If I have the work already completed then it can be delivery within days. Newly commissioned work should include a few days for preliminary studies and then somewhere between a week and a month depending on the medium. Return to Top Framing:
My prices do not include the cost of framing as some customers prefer to arrange their own framing. Pastels must be framed in a special way under glass which never touches the surface. Watercolours should always be framed under glass with a mount which I can provide. Oils may be framed or not. I can arrange a quotation from a commercial framer for any work and also give a ball park figure as a very rough guide. Frames are like most things in life, the price goes up with quality. Postage is not included in the price of the painting. If it is not possible for you to come to my studio, paintings may be sent by an international courier service such as Parceline. I can provide a guideline price for post and packing. Offshore delivery is possible.
